This session has finished. No further updates will be posted.

The session ends with championship leader Piastri on top of the times. Here’s the session report.

Verstappen frustrated by Charles Leclerc using DRS ahead of him to ensure the Red Bull driver does not pass him. “Not very clever,” says Verstappen’s race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase.

Unusually, Lance Stroll is having a mid-session change of seat in his Aston Martin.

Tsunoda is not happy with his Red Bull either. “Ah mate the amount of sliding I have is not normal. It’s crazy.” Wood asks: “So just like FP1, sliding both axles?” Tusnoda replies: “Yeah, literally.”

Norris ducks back into the pits. Ferrari are on-track but Hamilton says: “The car is un-driveable, mate.”

Just reaching the halfway point in the session as Oscar Piastri has switched to softs, he goes fastest with a 1’12.760.

Verstappen and Norris improve their times and are now tied on a 1’13.070, 0.024s off Russell.

Russell improves his time again to a 1’13.046. Andrea Kimi Antonelli takes up second place, a quarter of a second off his team mate.

No investigation on Hadjar and Colapinto.

Russell is leading the times now with a 1’13.501 on mediums.

The stewards have noted a potential impeding incident involving Hadjar and Colapinto.

Isack Hadjar: “Mate it’s a joke the traffic.”

That was a high-speed spin for Bearman as the VF-25 snapped away from him at the exit of turn three.

We’ve got another Haas in a gravel trap. It was Ryo Hirakawa in first practice, it’s Oliver Bearman this time. He rejoins.

Mercedes were out of the top 10 in first practice as they did not run the soft tyre. George Russell is on the same rubber as most drivers now and fifth fastest.

The medium compound is the order of the day for almost every driver at the moment. Lando Norris hits the top with a 1’13.636, Oscar Piastri second, Fernando Alonso six tenths of a second off in third. His team mate Lance Stroll is one of few drivers on hards. Max Verstappen now splits the McLarens for second.

“Car’s very on the nose,” reports Hamilton after his first run.

Haas still seeming to have some problems with bouncing on the way into turn nine.

Second practice is go and we have the now familiar queue of drivers heading out.

Franco Colapinto, had a hydraulic problem at the end of first practice but Alpine say his car should be fixed and running again in time for the second hour.

Esteban Ocon and Alexander Albon will be back in their cars for the second session of the day.

Second practice for the 2025 Spanish Grand Prix is coming up next.
