There were mixed fortunes for Ferrari as final practice ended in Monaco.
Charles Leclerc put his car on top of the times for the third session in a row at his home circuit. However the final hour of running came to an early end after his team mate crashed with two minutes left.Lewis Hamilton lost control of his car in the high-speed right-hander at Massenet. He was on a flying lap and closing in on Andrea Kimi Antonelli and Esteban Ocon when he went off, but the stewards ruled no investigation was necessary.
Ferrari have a substantial repair job to complete on Hamilton’s car before qualifying begins. He hit the barrier hard with his right-rear and also damaged the front-right corner.
Leclerc was the only front-running driver who was consistently able to post quicker lap times on the soft tyre towards the end of the session. Prior to that, Max Verstappen led the way for a significant period on the medium tyre compound.
When Verstappen switched to softs, he was only able to get within six hundredths of a second of his time, and repeatedly complained about a lack of grip in his car. Despite that, Leclerc was the only driver able to beat his time on the medium rubber.
The McLaren drivers lapped consistently off Verstappen’s pace and ended up behind him, Lando Norris third ahead of Oscar Piastri. Hamilton ended the session fifth.

Both Williams drivers lapped inside the top 10, Alexander Albon and Carlos Sainz Jnr separated by Liam Lawson, who was the quicker of the Racing Bulls drivers again. Yuki Tsunoda complained of poor balance in his car and lapped seven tenths of a second off Verstappen in ninth place.
Mercedes continued to look in poor shape. Antonelli took 10th ahead of George Russell, who told his race engineer Marcus Dudley: “We are nowhere at the moment and I am running out of ideas for this session.”
Franco Colapinto ended the session at the foot of the times and is under investigation for a potential red flag infringement.

Again traffic issues, although Hamilton’s season-ending error was still on him, even if he slightly reacted to the two in front of him.

Looks like a Leclerc vs Verstappen fight for pole. McLaren might get there if they are still hiding some pace but it looks like this one is coming down to the best drivers rather than car specific.
Too poor again from Hamilton. 0.5 off and in the wall isn’t what he or Ferrari needed. That’ll knock him too so I can easily see him being too cautious and having a Q1 exit.
Not sure where the Mercedes pace has gone. Maybe they can’t run as low as usual and that’s hurting their pace, but they both seem in no mans land. Still they could be the top team to play trick tomorrow so it could all still be to play for if it becomes a SC/VSC lottery as predicted.
Nicely poised for an interesting weekend!

Well let’s see after qualifying. Don’t Complain when he’s knocked out on Q1 or Q2 tho. No chance he makes Q3 today sadly.
It’ll be an incredible turnaround to just get the car on track.

Rather nice to see Lawson up there in 7th. I kinda feel bad for the guy, it’s good to see him getting a good position there. Hopefully he can score some points this weekend too.

Being cynical,
I’d say after Hamilton’s performance last week, Ferrari are trying to ‘big-up’ Leclerc in his hometown
by downgrading Hamilton’s car. Hamilton’s crash is partly due to him pushing in a car that isn’t as stacked as Leclerc’s.
God forbid Leclerc flops, because then Ferrari would have shot themselves in the foot for nothing. Here’s hoping they learn something from this balls-up.
tongue in cheek with this take on the crash, but….

I just saw the crash, flying lap into a virtually stationary car. Crazy.
They need additional rules for Monaco or fewer cars on the track.
